Welcome to the Elementary Art section of the Arts @ ICS blog! As we move through the school year, I’m excited to share with you little glimpses of art that the super-creative young students at ICS are making. From drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, and sculpture, elementary art students try it all. Color wheels, being imaginative, the Elements of Art, learning about famous artists and cultures, and how God created us as creative people in His image are a few things we focus on. I hope you become inspired by what you see!

3RD gRADERS lEARN ABOUT cLAUDE mONET
The 3rd grade students have been working on an art unit about the famous French artist, Claude Monet. Students have become familiar with his artwork, the art style of Impressionism, and how Monet was inspired by natural things that surrounded him like haystacks, gardens, water lilies and water reflections in France.
International Community School Singapore also has beautiful nature that surrounds the school, especially in the back garden! During an art class, students went out to the garden to find natural things that inspired them like plants, leaves, trees, potted plants, and vegetables. They were
encouraged to draw the contour lines (edges) of the natural things that they were inspired by!

A few weeks ago me and Miss Carrie Doron, our elementary art student-teacher, attended a 21st Century Learning course on using iPads for Elementary Art. After creating a stop-motion film in the course with the use of clay characters, a background, a fun story, and our iPads, we decided that the ICS fifth graders would be up for the same creative challenge!
With Miss Doron’s guidance, students just began creating their unique clay characters and story line this week. Here is a sneak preview of what our students have
come up with so far!
